The Beginning of a Legacy
The Let’s Share Foundation (LSF) was founded by Columbia, SC native, NBA All-Star and Hall of Famer Alex English, and his wife, Vanessa English. While many recognize Alex as the public face of LSF, Vanessa plays an equally vital role behind the scenes. Their partnership, grounded in faith and humility, reflects a shared commitment to uplifting communities and creating lasting impact.
Coming from humble beginnings, Alex understood early on the value of service. With their success came a desire—not for fanfare—but for meaningful giving. Guided by the principle,“To whom much is given, much is required,”Alex and Vanessa have dedicated their lives to helping others.
The Foundation's Roots
The Birth of Let’s ShareThe Let’s Share Foundation began in 1988 in Denver, Colorado, with a city-wide event called the Rainbow Talent Quest. It awarded a $5,000 scholarship and sparked a legacy of support for youth, education, and the arts. After Alex’s retirement in 1990, the English family moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where the foundation launched the Let’s Share African American Arts Festival (LSAAAF). Running from 1990 to 2003, the festival raised over $150,000 and became a beloved annual tradition.
About Alex English:
More Than an NBA Legend
Known as “Poetry in Motion,” Alex English played 15 seasons in the NBA, achieving his greatest success with the Denver Nuggets from 1979 to 1989. But his legacy reaches far beyond basketball.
Alex is a published poet with works like Let’s Share and If I Show You My Tenderness. He’s appeared in films and television, and worked as a coach and commentator for teams like the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings, and networks such as ESPN.
He also hosts the annual Alex English Basketball Skills Camp and has served on the boards of institutions including the University of South Carolina and The Township Foundation. Despite leaving college early for the NBA, Alex made a personal promise to finish his education—and proudly earned his Bachelor’s in English from USC during his off-seasons.

Let’s Share is where community, compassion, and opportunity meet.
